Cory was a beast last night. If it wasn't for that lucky bounce Florida got on their first goal we probably win 1-0.

thought Severson was having a pretty good game before the 4v4 in the 3rd, seemed like he got complacent/tired at the end and it cost us

Hoping we are not seeing the beginnings of a decline with Greene, think I've seen more mistakes from him this preseaon/last night than the past few years combined

I think without Schneider we score a couple more goals at least. It was a fun 1st and 3rd period. How awful was the 2nd period, though? Woof. OT was fun as always.

Luongo saved the game in the 3rd twice on nasty saves. Devils may have snuck away with an ugly win if one of them hits the net. All in all, I'll take a point against FLA any day. It was one game, the rust showed, things will get better.

I had no problem with Severson's game. He's still so young and needs to develop. Devils fans complain about not getting offense from d-men, but if that's going to change then we have to get used to seeing them join the rush or push the play out of the d-zone. It's growing pains; it happens. I just hope they don't demote him now. Keep putting him out there.

Agree on DSP. I understand the need for a bigger body with Henrique and Hall, someone to do the corner work, but putting him in the OT was a head scratcher.

Thought Spears was ok, but I'm guessing he comes out before Wood. Thought Wood has some good moments and plays more physical. I wouldn't mind seeing Bennett in next game, perhaps taking a few shifts with Henrique and Hall, too.

I'm hopeful with some tinkering the offense will straitened out as we have enough quality guys that we shouldn't be the train wreck they were last year... but right now we are on pace to score 82 goals... And that should start with moving DSP down and either PA P up or adding Bennett into the lineup. I'd take Speers out. He's looked good but he's too young and needs another year.

The D is really what scares me because I think collectively none of these guys are dominant D men. Jon Merrill isn't going to make things better and while I'd like to get a look at Santini, he's still a kid. IF we aren't going to trade for someone legit (aka Shattenkirk) then I'd see the 6 as:

Greene - Severson
Lovejoy-Quincey
Santini-Auvitu.

How does a 6"2" 190 lb Dman; Matheson, chuck a 6'2' 205 lb Dman; Severson, around like a rag doll?

Really like Hall and Henrique out there on the 3v3 though. Insert any D man that isn't slow and thats a pretty good start. They almost scored right away. Almost the key word there...unfortunately.

How did Hall look? Did you guys get the chance to see him try to do it all by himself a few times?

This guy needs more than 2 SOG. Offense has to revolve around him. And get him on the damn ice for the PP. Don't want to see DSP, Zajac etc as much as I did last night. Maybe it was my eyes but I did not see him on the ice in situations where i feel he has to be on the ice.

I thought I was the only one that felt he was not on the power play nearly enough. Also think I saw him on the pk like 3 times? Look I get that given his star caliber it makes sense to put a forward like him on the ice to keep an aggressive powerplay in check. But that's something I think would be smarter after his pk teammates get familiar with the penalty killing system and can FIND him to make plays like that, in game 1 of the season I would've probably kept hall completely off the penalty killing unit we have more clarity on who is gonna play where. I wouldn't use lasts nights game as too much of a measuring stick for sucesss, both teams seemed kind of uncomfortable and both teams played very defensively and careful. One thing that did concern me was hall a bit though, seemed a bit confused at times. But remember his whole world got flipped upside down, I bet within the next game or two were gonna see a very scary line with hall and henrique when they give them the right partner. Him and henrique seem like they will compliment each other well though

Too many guys looking to pass instead of shoot, but I think once these guys get comfortable playing with each other we should start seeing more shots on goal.
Even on the assist by Auvitu he looked around like he was trying to pass before he took the shot.

Gotta say I wouldn't mind seeing Elias on Zacha's wing instead of JJ. I have no idea where that possibility stands as of now, but it crossed my mind last night.

Who was the top line with Henrique last year?

I'd almost consider keeping them together and letting Hall do the heavy lifting on a different line. Maybe with Pavel Zacha? Draisaitl did well as a rookie when paired with Hall. In Edmonton Hall was typically capable of carrying lesser linemates which provides solid options for more depth in scoring lines.

Taylor hall is not a sniper or dangler. He has tremendous speed and can carry the puck but he isn't even close to what kovalchuk was in being able to just do whatever when ever and score 90% of the time. I think to many are expecting him to replace what kovy brought when he is a lot more of the parise type then being the type that only needs that one second of time to put the puck in the back of the net.

I watched all kovys goals as a devil the other day and man was he a special player his speed, his stick handling, his size and that shot he could score from anywhere inside the blue line with that shot and he could shoot through almost any kind of traffic it will be along time before we get another player like that but hall will be amazing for us just not in the same way.

I'm really shocked by frenchie. I was under the assumption he was a depth add, and would be lucky to see NHL time. He seems much more valuable.

He could have been in legitimate contention for best sniper or at least top 5 all time if he didn't leave for the khl

He spent a good amount of time with Cammalleri and Stempniak last year before Cammy was hurt and Stemp was traded. Hence the big uptick in production over the previous years and the revolving door of Michael Ryder, Tuomo Ruutu, Steve Bernier, etc.

His rookie year he spent quite a bit of it with Kovy and Parise. Henrique isn't going to carry a line, but give him legit top 6 forwards to work with and he produces like a 1st line center.

I wouldn't split him and Hall up, especially since Zajac and Palmieri work so well together. The key is going to be finding which RW plays best with them. I'd think DSP, Bennett and PA will all get looks.
